Ba Salama Chair for Gynecologic Oncology Launched

Dr Abdullah Hussain Ba Salama Chair for Gynecologic Oncology was launched on Monday 21st November 2011 by Dr Ahmed H. Nagadi, Vice President for Business and Knowledge Creativity, in the presence of Dr Adnan Al-Mazrooa, Vice President, Dr Mahmoud Al-Ahwal, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and a number of KAU deans.

Dr Nagadi gave a speech in which he stressed the important role of research chairs in the community.

He was also appreciative of Dr Ba Salama for sponsoring the chair.  

Dr Khalid Sait, the Chair's Supervisor, reiterated KAU’s commitment to promoting scientific research in gynecologic malignant diseases.

In this direction, a gynecology oncology unit, the first of its kind in Saudi universities, was introduced at the Faculty of Medicine, and a Saudi gynecology oncology group was also established during last year, according to him.

He also expressed alarm at the sharp increase in gynecologic malignancies in Saudi Arabia, constituting 51% of the total cancer incidence.

Addressing the audience, Dr Khalid Khayyat, Dean of KAU Research and Consulting Institute (RACI), emphasized the important role of research chairs in developing the community.

Dr Abdullah Hussain Ba Salamah showed gratitude to KAU President, HE Prof Osama S. Tayyeb, for his unstinting support to research chairs for the benefit of the community as a whole.
