The Research Endowment Fund has concluded its environmental campaign “Recycling from Your Home” which spread over wide areas in of Jeddah, whereby 38 of the most prominent and the liveliest districts of the city actively took part in it. The campaign was reacted to with very high interest and satisfaction among the neighborhoods’ residents and city dwellers. The number of households visited amounted to 1250 units where the collected waste of plastic and paper weighed about 60 tons, ready for recycling. That was achieved within 10 months since it was launched from July 2020 and until April 2021.
Through the campaign “Recycling from Your Home”, the Research Endowment Fund has endeavored to preserve the safety of the environment and raise the social awareness about the importance of resorting to recycling consumption waste instead of disposing of it in an unsafe manner both to the health of the people and the environment. That was achieved through establishing a clear working mechanism for its campaign. As a result, every Saturday was designated for visiting households of the scheduled districts for waste collection. Also, a periodical advertisement on the Research Endowment Fund private social media platforms was aimed at specifying the time of the campaign in each district so that people who live in the planned neighborhoods can get in touch directly with the staff and specify locations and time for the recycling truck to visit.
In a related context, the Research Endowment Fund and the Faculty of Medicine at KAU have signed a memorandum of cooperation whereby, the Executive Director, Dr Essam Bin Hasan Kawther represented the Endowment Fund and Professor Mahmud Bin Shahin Al’Ahwal signed on behalf of the Faculty of Medicine.
Through the memorandum, both parties strive to strengthen the relationship between them in various research and training fields, and enhance their partnership in providing specific training programs for students of the Faculty of Medicine. Moreover, the program called “Awn” or “Assistance” has been launched to support both male and female students of the faculty according to specific mechanisms which will contribute to the continuation of their learning journey. This initiative is borne out of the eagerness of the Research Endowment Fund to contribute to the Saudi Vision 2030 through developing and serving the KAU community and also that of the Kingdom in various social domains.
The Research Endowment Fund also launched a series of meetings, known as “Ramadan Lanterns” on a voluntary basis during Ramadan. Eight different meetings will be held in the fields of endowments and skills development to discuss topics in resource development, endowment governance, use of mental map, and balanced life, etc. A group of famous academics and specialists with the required expertise will be holding these meetings.
In addition, the Research and Consulting Institute participated in launching the second phase of the accredited surveyor qualification program in cooperation with the Saudi Council of Engineers. The program was introduced with the main objective of achieving the Kingdom's Vision 2030 by providing training courses for engineers in the field of surveying and offering the latest modern technologies and devices such as the integrated station and GPS system. The program also offers a lot of good materials and ideas with extensive training and field, research applications.
In addition, the episodes of “Fazzorah with Norah” program have been launched which is presented by King Fahd Library for children, with the aim of providing children with the culture of the Prophet’s Sunnah through continuous meetings to be presented throughout the blessed month of Ramadan to enhance children's knowledge in this area.
In the context of the skills development series, a course on effective communication skills is provided by Professor Haya Al-Subaie, over a period of two days (21-22 April), targeting educational and administrative staff and all those interested in public administration. The course highlights the concept of human communication and its importance, planning for effective communication with others as well as effective communication strategies.
Moreover, the Creativity Center organized a workshop by the title “Sustainability or “Estidama” Center Trends in the Development of the Agricultural Sector and Achieving a Comprehensive View of Financial Sustainability”, in Riyadh which lasted for a full day. The workshop has been conducted within the framework of the strategic partnership between the Center and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.
A large number of experts, academics and researchers participated in that workshop, which focused on the possibility of expanding the field of work of the "Estidama Center" in order to stress the importance of the scientific impact and the scientific research in its outputs.
In addition, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Creativity Center of the Research Endowment Fund at KAU Vice Presidency for Knowledge Creativity and the Business Incubator, which is the first business incubator in Taif. The agreement was represented on behalf of the Creativity Center by the Managing Director, Dr. Essam Kawthar, and on behalf of leadership role, by the Counselor, Ms. Mona Al Zahrani.
The agreement aims at paving the way for cooperation between the two parties in the field of studies, consultations and training to support male and female entrepreneurs and to provide all forms of support through mentoring, empowerment, guidance and logistical support.
